No nasties

Here's the lo-down on what we consider "nasties" and why.

You'll be relieved to know that none of our Scarlett & Greene products contain them:

Parabens

Chemical preservatives used in skin care, hair care and cosmetics to stop mould by preventing normal biological activity. The European Commission on Endocrine Disruption has listed parabens as Category 1 priority substances based on evidence that they interfere with hormone function. Parabens occur in so many products that there's a risk of them having a cumulative effect.

Mineral Oils

Used as a moisture barrier in some moisturizers. It's a petrochemical, as it's a liquid by-product from the distillation of petroleum.

Silicones

Look for ingredients ending in "-siloxane" or "-methicone". Used in a variety of cosmetics to soften, smooth and moisten. Suspected endocrine disrupter and reproductive toxicant (cyclotetrasiloxane).

PEGs

Used in many cosmetic cream bases. Can be contaminated with 1,4-dioxane, which may cause cancer.

DEA/TEA

Used in creamy and foaming products, such as moisturizers and face and body washes. Can react to form nitrosamines, which may cause cancer.

Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (and Sodium Laureth Sulphate)

SLS is a widely used cleaning agent, which also happens to be used in soaps, washes and skin care products (makes them foam). When up against your skin, it strips the skin of its natural oils and increases the rates of skin absorption of other chemicals used - like nasty detergents, preservatives and fragrances.

Fragrances (Parfum)

Some fragrance ingredients can trigger allergies.
